There’s happenings on the Coast coming up. Gulf Shores, Alabama, has the Hangout Cook-Off, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has the Peter Anderson Festival, and Pensacola has the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival and the Foo Foo Fest.
The 12th Annual Hangout Cook-Off is Nov. 1 & 2. Friday includes craft spirits and beer with BBQ. Saturday is the oyster cook-off with celebrity chef Michael Symon. Music performances by country star Caroline Jones and the legendary Jimmy Hall & Muscle Shoals All-Stars on Saturday. Admission is $20 Friday night (events start at 6:30 p.m.) and $10 all day Saturday. Friday night has a big deal BBQ and craft spirits special event that costs $200. During Friday and Saturday you’ll need to buy a book of tickets for $30 (covers both days) to buy drinks and food on the grounds. The event is outside the Hangout in Gulf Shores. The Peter Anderson Arts and Crafts Festival in Ocean Springs celebrates the pottery of the noted artist, who is the brother of the famous painter/sketcher Walter Anderson. It’s Nov. 2 & 3. It’s the largest art and crafts show on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Peter Anderson is the original potter of Shearwater Pottery, founded in 1928. Live music, too.
The Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival is Nov. 1 to Nov. 3 in Pensacola. You’ll find the work of 200 of the nation’s best painters, potters, sculptors, craftsmen. Its in Seville Square. There will be live music, too. The Foo Foo Fest is from Oct. 31 to Nov. 11 in Pensacola. Performers include the classical piano virtuoso Garrick Ohlsson and the noted jazz band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. There are plays, holographic displays, and skate-able concrete structures. This art, music, and theater festival is one of the largest in the Southeast. Admission varies by event.
